Health and Ammo Placement: Objectives

So, you are making a Team Fortress 2 Map. In a TF2 map, you'll most likely be placing Health and Ammo kits around places, but how close should you get to the Objectives of your map?

This is a Domination map I recently finished the first Alpha of. In this image you can see B, and also a Medium Health kit, and Small Ammo kits on the team's balcony.

For a player to reach the Medium Health kit, they must drop off of the point to grab it. This means for a player to replenish their Health, they must take a small detour to grab it, and then have to go back up to the point, wasting about 4-6 seconds to do so. This means they have to give up the objective for that amount of time, giving the enemy a chance to take the building housing the point. As for the Small Ammo kits, they are also away from the point. Players wanting to grab them have to take another small detour to run up to the ammo. This not only waste their time, but has them leave the cover of the point building to run for Ammo. You can also notice the lack of Health and Ammo on the roof. The roof here has a hole for Demomen to spam Pipes and Stickies down. If they take too much damage, or run down their ammo, they have to drop off the roof, which will inflict fall damage.

This is C, the third point on the map. Here you can see a quite large room, as well as a massive height advantage for anyone on the point.

For a player to reach the Full Health kit, they have to give up their height advantage. Not only that though, they also have to enter a small corridor, which can easily be spammed by all classes. There is also 2 Small Ammo kits by the Full Health kit. Players entering the corridor have to be wary, as any class can easily take their previous height advantage and use it against them. Any class caught below when that happens will have to use about 8 seconds to either escape or scale the point.

This is A, the first point, and the most open one. You can see the small height difference and large openness, all leading to a Deathpit below.

There is a Small Health kit and Medium Ammo kit here. The Small kit is in very close proximity to the point, and as a result, can be easily grabbed by any class. The Medium kit is also within close proximity to the point, and encourages Engineers to build here, even though it is an open point. The Small kit makes it so players can stay and defend, but makes that job difficult due to the openness and ever present enemy, who have a large area and 2 entrances to charge the point.

That was a small guide on Health and Ammo Placement near your Objectives, and I hope it helps you on your next map.
